Having just replaced the roof on my house, I was intrigued by the Discover blog's "How Deep Fryer Grease Can Become an Energy-Saving Coating for Your Roof" by Smriti Rao. Among all the April Fools articles I've come across, this one seems legit -- especially since it was posted on March 31.
Crispy on the Outside
Don't toss the oil you used to cook those fries!
For while you're eating fast food on the hoof,
Let's lift those sizzling liquids to the skies
And spread their yummy goodness on your roof.
Ben Wen has cooked a high-tech polymer
Reflecting or absorbing solar heat
To warm in winter -- and (you may infer)
To cool in summer -- quite the eco-feat
For stuff the crispy coatings leave behind.
On asphalt shingles, they adjust to taste.
Non-toxic, odorless, their plastic binds
To insulate and not to go to waste.
Who knew home buying meant you chewed the fat?
For soon we'll ask, "Do you want roof with that?"
